Due to being in Nottingham for work with BBC Radio Nottingham, I stayed at The Lace Market Hotel, and its location was, without question, one of its greatest assets. Set in the heart of the historic Lace Market, the hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring the city, with shops, restaurants, cultural landmarks, and key business areas all within easy walking distance. As someone who loves discovering cities on foot, this central location made getting around feel effortless, immersive, and genuinely enjoyable.

Nottingham itself is a vibrant, thriving city, and we were truly spoilt for choice when it came to dining and evening plans. One night, we enjoyed dinner at Puccolinos, which offered a lively, bustling atmosphere, excellent pasta, a great wine list, and a wonderful sense of energy. For something extra special, we booked an evening at the phenomenal live jazz bar Peggy’s Skylight (pre-booking is essential), which was a real highlight of the trip. Intimate, atmospheric, and wonderfully unique, it’s the kind of venue that makes you fall a little bit in love with a city.
Another evening took us to the newly opened The Ivy Nottingham, which delivered its signature glamour and buzz. It’s a menu I know and trust, paired with consistently exceptional cocktails and service, making it an ideal choice for a memorable night out. The city’s bar scene was equally impressive; I particularly loved the cosy, eclectic feel of Hockley Arts Club. The Theatre Royal boasts a fantastic programme of forthcoming shows, and of course the ice rink was alive with fans watching the Nottingham Panthers.
What also fascinated me was Nottingham’s rich musical heritage. The Lace Market Hotel itself proudly displays doors covered in autographs from visiting musicians who regularly stay there, giving the hotel a real sense of cultural history and character.

One afternoon, we stopped for a light lunch and matcha at the very charming La Fleur, which felt like a little oasis within the city. Stylish, calm, and relaxed, it was the perfect spot for a slower moment between meetings and exploring.
We stayed in a Superior Suite, and the room was both generous and thoughtfully designed. It featured a comfortable super king-size bed and a large superior bathroom complete with a walk-in shower and a beautiful free-standing bath. The addition of his-and-hers vanity sinks and Natural Remedies bathroom amenities added a luxurious touch. Our room overlooked the Galleries of Justice Museum, one of Nottingham’s most historic landmarks, which further enhanced the sense of place and connection to the city’s heritage.

Each morning, we enjoyed a well-executed breakfast offering, including a continental buffet alongside a selection of freshly prepared hot dishes. The full English breakfast, cooked to order by the breakfast chef, was particularly welcome before busy working days.
The Lace Market Hotel itself is charming and full of character, with a strong sense of history that reflects the heritage of the surrounding area. The rooms were comfortable and provided everything I needed for a practical and pleasant stay while working locally. It was a calm, quiet base to return to at the end of busy days, which I really appreciated.

That said, while the hotel’s historic presence is undoubtedly part of its appeal, it does feel as though it may be ready for a gentle refresh in places. A subtle modernisation could elevate the experience further while still preserving the building’s character and charm.
The staff were consistently polite, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay, always on hand to assist with any questions or requests. Their friendly, professional approach added greatly to the overall ease and comfort of the experience.

Overall, The Lace Market Hotel is a well-located, characterful option in Nottingham, particularly well suited to those visiting for work or short stays. Its central position within one of the city’s most historic and atmospheric districts makes it a convenient and appealing choice, and with a light refresh, it has the potential to be truly exceptional.
